Making a Difference: Crafting a Garden Sanctuary for Martin
You never know how your lifestyle may change, and at Industrial Modern Furniture, we always hope to help "make a difference" in the lives of our customers.
Recently, we had the absolute pleasure of meeting Jane and her family friend, Martin. From the moment we met him, we were struck by Martin’s vibrant character and infectious smile. A local customer who was once very healthy and has always maintained a super positive outlook on life, Martin unfortunately suffered a stroke in recent years.
While his recovery continues, and despite the immense adversities he faces daily, Martin—with the incredible, loving support of those around him—has kept his sunshine smile and a "good grip" on life. However, his mobility and his ability to chat have been heavily set back since his stroke.
Despite these hurdles, Martin has remained focused on his goals. One of his ultimate life goals was simple yet profound: to step out, conquer walking up and down small steps regularly, and, most of all, reach a shady spot in his garden set up with sun chairs. This particular spot is a delightful place for rest and reflection—yet it was a space he had never been able to safely reach or sit down in.
Setting goals for ourselves is how we thrive. Being asked to help create this "Garden Sanctuary" was an honour, and completing this made-to-measure, precision on-site project to help a lovely man realise his dream has been an incredibly rewarding experience for us..
Here is a behind-the-scenes look at how we brought Martin’s garden railings to life:
Step 1: The Consultation
For us, the first step is always a home visit and design consultation. Whether your taste leans toward traditional, contemporary, or simply stylish, our bespoke railings always fit the bill. We assess the space, discuss the specific mobility needs, and plan a design that is as safe as it is beautiful.
Step 2: The Mobile Workshop & Precision Fit
For the first on-site visit, John set up a mobile welding workshop right at Martin's home. This allowed us to cut, bend, and tack-weld the steel handrails in real-time, ensuring a perfect "made-to-measure" fit for the unique layout of the steps.
The best part? Because we fabricate on-site during this phase, the customer can alter or amend anything at this stage! How good is that?
Step 3: Workshop Fabrication & Finishing
Once the fit was perfected on-site, we took the handrails back to our Yatton workshop to complete the final fabrication. Here, we fettle (smooth out the metal) and firm-weld the entire structure to ensure maximum strength and durability. To protect the steel against the elements, we applied a zinc primer followed by a high-quality powder coat.
The Final Touch: Anthracite Grey
For Martin’s railings, we used Anthracite Grey—a color that is becoming increasingly popular. It softens the harshness of traditional black tones and looks incredibly modern, especially when designed to complement any existing Anthracite tones in your home's double glazing.
Seeing the completed project and knowing that Martin is now one step closer to enjoying his peaceful garden shady spot is exactly why we love what we do.
